How I make photographs. (WORK IN PROGRESS: Blog about process from 2022. Update coming soon)

  1. Visualize - Photography in its infancy was debated for decades whether it was art or just strictly science. The accurate and detailed capabilities of photography are well known at well utilized. However, this crucial step in making photographs art is often overlooked. Visualization of where the photograph will manifest in its final form (like Adams) or visualizing one’s point of view as an individual requires more thought, practice, and patience, than any of the following steps.

  2. Camera - The camera is tool who’s purpose is to serve the artist. , just as the brush serves the painter, the camera serves the photographer. I don’t require more than a few good dependable brushes to manifest my vision.

  3. Negative - Film exposed in the camera is developed to bring out a negative (or positive) image. When done correctly, The printing process will be more satifying a yeild even more beautiful results!

  4. Print - A photographer who prints their work may take thousands of photographs, but only print a handful. Why is this? I like to think of taking the picture like sketching in a sketchbook and making a print is selecting the work you made in the sketchbook and bringing it out. In photography, the printed picture is where photographs become a reality. A finished product.

  5. Display - The final encore of the piece. The performance where everyone can enjoy the magnificence of the final piece at the end of its long and tiresome road.
